Passive House, or Passivhaus, is a rigorous energy-performance standard that reduces a building’s energy use through airtight construction, high insulation, and controlled ventilation with heat recovery. Internationally recognised, Passive House helps create buildings that are comfortable, sustainable and cost-efficient to operate.

The Certified Passive House Designer course equips you with the training, skills and confidence needed to pass the Passive House exam, set by the Passive House Institute (PHI).

With an emphasis on practical implementation, this course delves into key aspects of optimising a building’s design, such as ventilation requirements and heating fundamentals, to maximise energy efficiency and minimise ecological footprints. Learners are provided with the skills and knowledge required to achieve the Certified European Passive House qualification and contribute to the design of residential and non-residential Passive House projects.

Becoming a Certified Passive House Designer enables you to work on Passive House design projects, helping you meet industry standards and client needs.

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the advanced concepts, definitions and economics of Passive House.
  • Understand how thermal envelopes, air tightness, thermal bridging and HVAC systems work in Passive House.
  • Explore the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP).
  • Start working on Passive House design projects, after passing the PHI exam.
