Why choose this certification?

Achieving certification enables you to demonstrate your knowledge, understanding and capabilities of Information Management using Building Information Modelling (BIM). This provides your employers and customers with the assurance that you are aligned with the relevant aspects of ISO 19650-2:2018, according to your role within the Information Management process.

What is the process?

  1. The first step to certification is to complete the BRE Academy ‘ISO 19650 1&2 Project Delivery’ & ‘ISO 19650 Delivering Information Management in Practice’ Training courses.
  2. Next, complete and submit the certification application form. If your application is valid and the certification fees have been covered, BRE will issue you with the assessment form(s) to complete and submit.
  3. A BRE Auditor will then asses your submission and certification will be issued on successful completion of the assessment.
  4. Certification is maintained through fulfilment of CPD requirements and payment of annual fees. Re-certification is required every 3 years.

What are the requirements?

Completion of training which meets the UK BIM framework learning outcomes. We strongly recommend the following BRE Academy courses to ensure the certification topics have been covered to prepare you for the certification process:

For the PIM and/or TIM route, either a professional qualification (HND or equivalent, degree), chartership/membership of a professional institution (e.g., CIBSE, CIAT, RICS or RIBA) or evidence of at least two years relevant experience. This does not apply to the BIP route to certification.

Which routes for Information Management Certification for Individuals using BIM are available?

  • BIM Informed Professional (BIP) Certification
  • Task Information Management (TIM) Practitioner Certification
  • Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner Certification

You can apply for any combination of these scopes if you wish. Each scope requires a separate assessment.

How long does it take to achieve certification?

The assessment process can take approximately 4-6 weeks.

You will then be provided with the auditor’s report and if any nonconformities are raised, you will have the opportunity to make one free resubmission to address them. If all scheme requirements are met, certification will be granted.

You can make additional resubmissions if there are further nonconformities – this will require payment of additional fees prior to assessment.

How long is certification valid for?

Certificates are valid for 3 years from date of initial issue, subject to completing 15 hours of BIM related CPD each year.

After 3 years a recertification assessment will be required. On successful completion of recertification, an updated certificate for the following 3 years will be issued.

What do I get when I complete the process?

You will receive a certificate, a BRE certification mark for use on email signatures, website, presentations etc. and a ‘Credly’ badge to demonstrate that you hold the certification, along with an optional public listing on the BRE website here.
